Ialuset Hydrocolloid is a hydrocolloid dressing enriched with hyaluronic acid (0.2%) and chondroitin sulfate (0.3%) as healing enhancers. It is indicated for the treatment of chronic ulcers and burns and is available as a 10x10 dressing in 10units-packs for topical application.

The consolidated use of hydrocolloid dressings in the treatment of chronic lesions lies on their ability to provide a humid and hypoxic milieu, which results in optimal conditions for the progress of cicatrisation. Moreover, the exudates of the lesion are absorbed by the hydrocolloid, which forms a visible swelling of the dressing. The dressing is to be substituted once exhausted its absorptive capacity, i.e. when the liquid runs outside. Animal models have confirmed the superiority of occlusive systems in the cicatrisation of both superficial and profound lesions as compared with simple exposure to air.

In Ialuset Hydrocolloid these well-known properties have been enriched with wound healing capabilities by adding two well-known active ingredients:

• Hyaluronic acid, a biological polymer with large diffusion in several body tissues, especially the connective tissues, is involved in all the phases of the wound healing, stimulates the reparative processes and helps to maintain the humid environment needed for the cicatrisation.
• Chondroitin sulfate, the most represented mucopolysaccharide of the human organism, which besides the well-known therapeutic use in osteoarthritis, has been recognised the ability to favour the cicatrisation process of cutaneous lesions and surgical wounds.
